It's definitely the keyboard, does the weird volume thing even if plugged into PC. The key means Mute tap it once to cut off the sound completely and again to restore its. I've tried plugging this straight into the computer too, just to rule out the volume issue being introduced by KVM. These three keys control your speaker volume. It's also really annoying to have to install a application just to not get crazy rainbow colors on boot. Although there is a 3rd party program for Linux to set the key colors, I don't always bother to install it on every Linux box I plug in. I use it on a KVM with a Linux computer and Windows.
